Its pretty nice really. I like to go over sweet jumps.

Yesterday I was riding home from work and my cell phone rang. I thought I would be super slick on my super bike and continue riding while talking on the cell phone. Well it turns out that riding and talking is much more dangerous that driving and talking. I ate the curb. The cool part about it was that I did it in front of the Japanesse Walmart, or the closest thing to it. People looked at me like they wanted to say, "You freaking Americas! You're always drunk!"

I just got up and cycled out of there. It was extreme. After I fell, I stood up and shouted Urban Assalt. Today, our fellow citizens, our way of life, our very freedom came under attack in a series of deliberate and deadly terrorist acts. The victims were in airplanes, or in their offices; secretaries, businessmen and women, military and federal workers; moms and dads, friends and neighbors. Thousands of lives were suddenly ended by evil, despicable acts of terror.
The pictures of airplanes flying into buildings, fires burning, huge structures collapsing, have filled us with disbelief, terrible sadness, and a quiet, unyielding anger. These acts of mass murder were intended to frighten our nation into chaos and retreat. But they have failed; our country is strong.
A great people has been moved to defend a great nation. Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings, but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shattered steel, but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.
America was targeted for attack because we're the brightest beacon for freedom and opportunity in the world. And no one will keep that light from shining.
Today, our nation saw evil, the very worst of human nature. And we responded with the best of America -- with the daring of our rescue workers, with the caring for strangers and neighbors who came to give blood and help in any way they could.
Immediately following the first attack, I implemented our government's emergency response plans. Our military is powerful, and it's prepared. Our emergency teams are working in New York City and Washington, D.C. to help with local rescue efforts.
Our first priority is to get help to those who have been injured, and to take every precaution to protect our citizens at home and around the world from further attacks.
The functions of our government continue without interruption. Federal agencies in Washington which had to be evacuated today are reopening for essential personnel tonight, and will be open for business tomorrow. Our financial institutions remain strong, and the American economy will be open for business, as well.
The search is underway for those who are behind these evil acts. I've directed the full resources of our intelligence and law enforcement communities to find those responsible and to bring them to justice. We will make no distinction between the terrorists who committed these acts and those who harbor them.
I appreciate so very much the members of Congress who have joined me in strongly condemning these attacks. And on behalf of the American people, I thank the many world leaders who have called to offer their condolences and assistance.
America and our friends and allies join with all those who want peace and security in the world, and we stand together to win the war against terrorism. Tonight, I ask for your prayers for all those who grieve, for the children whose worlds have been shattered, for all whose sense of safety and security has been threatened. And I pray they will be comforted by a power greater than any of us, spoken through the ages in Psalm 23: "Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me."
This is a day when all Americans from every walk of life unite in our resolve for justice and peace. America has stood down enemies before, and we will do so this time. None of us will ever forget this day. Yet, we go forward to defend freedom and all that is good and just in our world.
Thank you. Good night, and God bless America.
END 8:35 P.M. We talked about how sleeping with a prostitutes was wrong and some people talked about how it wasn't all that wrong. I was pretty shocked at first but then it struck me, have I ever really looked into it? Have I ever really thought about sleeping with a prostitute being O.K? Well, No. I haven't. I did. It's still wrong. I know, shocking.

We then studied a little 1 corn. 6 and a little Hosea 4. It was over all a pretty cool conversation. We walked through the 95 theses. We walked through the doctrines of Grace. We studied over the adoration of Mary and the Praying to of Saints. We talked about Consubstatiation and Transubstatiation (not sure if that's even close to the spelling).

They asked me about the difference between many of the protestant denominations and what I thought about Mormons, JW's, and some other cults. We talked about baptism, rather it be adult or infant. We talked about a lot of stuff. It was awesome.

I hope these convos continue. Who knows what will happen. All I know is that I am remembering a lot of things that I thought I forgot. I know this because the past screams this. I love those crazy Indians from tally but seriously they get all girlie eyed when they play Miami. If they win this game they have got a decent shot at a BCS bowl game. If they don't....FSU pretty much will be FS who for the rest of the year. Atleast the ACC isn't a laugh stock anymore. I was proud of them ole boys at tech and Clemson. Tina reminds me of FSU at Miami. I think I will rename Calvin. His new name shall be 7 for the amount of consecutive losses to Miami. Dang you Miami. You ruin my early fall every year. I cant believe that anyone would think that New Orleans is getting help slower than a white neighborhood would. That is just absurd. There are so many people and so little resources. Do people really think that Bush wants the Black Man to pay for being black in the wake of a natural disaster. I'm surprised people didn't say that about New York too. New York didn't get help as fast as Houston would because George Bush hates the Yankees.

I think the media has reached an all time low. Americans always turn things into a race related issue. They always make it seem like people don't give to giggles for black people. I bet at the next election some stupid democrat will talk about how she could have made it easier for the minorities in New Orleans.

I bet if G.W.B could express himself in a non-politically correct way he would say, "what the f?" That is what every decent American should be saying. "What the F, Kayne?" "What the F, NAACP?"

With the most diverse cabinet in history, I am sure George is writing on his blog while listening to "Black or White!"

Where's the rest of the world?

It would interest me to know how many people around the world care about what is going on in New Orleans. It would interest me to know why the same global front that nearly demands Americas help on nearly everything isn't calling for such relief or donations to us.

Someone was asking why the Louisiana National guard isn't there to help them in their time on need. Pick and choose people. Now that we need help people are all about the military when they need us to step in and gain control. If this wouldn't have happened people would be complaining about us being in Iraq helping people. The United States Government isn't the means to help all problems globally but just like we did in the tsunami relief we will be there to help New Orleans.

I'm starting to come to the view point where humanity is just that, humanity. It can be packaged in a Cajun from the south, a Yankee in the north, a refugee in Iraq, a starving child in the Sudan, or an orphan in Sri Lanka, but no matter who they are, at some point they need help.

Every society can turn to chaos in a matter of days or even hours. Its amazing how alike the situation in Sri Lanka and America can truly be. Its amazing that the same health and crime epidemics can arise in two very different countries.

Screamo kicks the singing bass

I have a new favorite kind of music. Its no longer the sultry ballads that fill the lite rock radio. Its the evolution known as Screamo. Screamo is simply the best music ever. Its got a light side but yet kicks my butt with scared Recruit type screams. I understand that some of you are the real hard core kids but understand that Screamo is what I am. Hardcore packaged more lightly.

It was a good night last night. We have this new guy at work. This isn't a really big deal in most work places but, in mine, it makes for an interesting night. We were all talking about momma jokes while the new kid, Smith, was outside. Then we decided that there wouldn't be any just 'your momma jokes' but rather they would all be Smiths momma jokes.

Then we pretty much forgot about it and went on with the rest of the night. We had to do records and get all of our stuff in order for the end of the month. When someone wants us to search something for explosives or anything really they have got to fill out this letter head. Well, McDonald asked, "Who ordered the search on the school buses?" To which I could only reply, "Smith's Mom!" We all laughed pretty hard. Then while Smith was still outside, Myself and another guy named Johan drew out this big sketch about how Smith's mom is a fat bus driver who is so fat the devil is worried that Hell would cave in. We also talked about how Smith's moms butt is so big that Black people are like, "Dang that's a big ole butt!"

He was pretty surprised and a little butt hurt when he realized the kinda person that his dumb, ugly, fat momma really was deep down. I think we are going to get a gum ball machine just so we can scan a picture of his momma and make her the spoke person for Jerry's kids.

I don't understand why Momma jokes never get old. Maybe its because your momma gives me such fresh material. Bam!

Nothing new really

Things are going pretty well in Okinawa. Not really much has been changing. Kelsie is starting to play Stacy and I for the fool. This horse is a picture that describes how I feel about it. To those of you who are getting married soon or just got married. Save your money until you have enough where you can buy nice stuff. We bought some cheap stuff at first just to get by but we should have waited. Now we are getting some really nice stuff and I am pretty stoked about it. I go back to work on Monday. It kinda sucks. I have been having a really good time, for the most part, with Kelsie at home. She interacts with me alot more now.

I had to move the old 'c-o-r you going to the mall laters' down 5 flights of stairs. Luckly one of my friends helped me. It was pretty trying at first. I remind you that it is all in the hips.

The hips are so clutch in so many ways. I dont really have the time to discuss all the ways that the hips are grand but trust me friends, they are.

The Red Sox are in first place y 4 games and they have sucked the last week. Well 3 and half games by the time this posts. I hope they repeat. If they cant win, the Angels are a pretty good team. You have no idea how happy I would be if the Yankees didnt make the playoffs. Is anybody else tired about hearing about T.O.? I am. I cant stand that guy. Shut up and play football for 7 million dollars a season. I would love to sit the bench for 30,000 a season. I wish the Eagles would just cut him. If they did, they would be my second favorite team.

This is MY new dog. I have a new found respect for stay at home moms. Dont get me wrong i love hanging out with ole kelsie but constant watching, feeding, and changing makes for a long day. For instance, just since i have been writing this i have gottten up four times to replace the pacifer (and i dont mean Vin Deisal). Now five. I have no clue how people make it with twins. If you know people with twins, you should give them ice cream because the deserve it. Heck everybody should give everybody with kids ice cream because they have had a long day and would enjoy the milky treat. I know i would.

Tomorrow We get our new bed that we just dropped nearly two grand on. I dont know why we spent that much on a bed but it better be comfortable. I cant wait to sleep on the pillow topped goodness. Kelsie smiles when I replace the pacifier in her mouth. Its like she understands I have got to get up when she cries. She a tricky little booger. I should punch her. Moneyball is a good book.

I watched a lot of UFC today. It got me really pumped. I wanted to jump around and punch Tina in the face. But when I tried she slipped around and put me in a killer head lock. I tapped out. Tomorrow she is goin down! Impact is the mark that was hit and intent is the mark that is desired. It is hard for me to explore deep into the facets that make this topic so complicated for so many in political realms because I know the intentions of which I am required to write. It is my assumption that in writing this I am admitting some sort of guilt for my actions. I understand that my words in some way, well not even my words but my laughter, could have been found to be hurtful. If they have I am surprised.

For some reason it has become a pop culture phenomena to be forced into an apology of sorts. It has happened twice this weekend just in the sporting realm. It is almost a twice weekly occurrence in the political realm as well.

For example, Joe Gibbs, the long time coach of the Washington Redskins, was forced to apologize to Dallas Cowboys fans for his remarks that they are the ugliest people of the planet. Now do we really think that people all across the nation were offended by Mr. Gibbs. Can we suppose for one minute that one, even one, cowboy fan was hurt by these words?

What Joe Gibbs said in jest and what I laughed at in jest are two examples of what I suppose to be humorous intent that was floundered by over sensitivity. My aim was not to hurt someone. It was not Cpl. Donaldson's aim to belittle a people. Joking among friends was the aim. Perhaps instead of watching what we say more carefully we should watch the company that we keep more carefully.

sushi bar

 P1000188
Originally uploaded by matthewc5v6.
We all went out to eat sushi. What is the most white trash fast food places. I think it is capn' d's! But since Neil reads this he will have some input. Bam! Now that I have a little girl of my own, it rips my stomach to hear of these deviants getting out of jail. People that have large amounts of weed spend more time in jail than someone who tapes children, not a child but children. This is sick. Should there even be a level three classification for these people? Do parole board really think it is wise to release someone who they feel has a high likelihood of committing these acts again? Take a look at this for example. This is straight off the list in Mass.

DOB: 11-11-50
HEIGHT: 5'08" WEIGHT: 160 lbs
DATE OF LAST CONVICTION: 1992
PLACE OF CONVICTION: King County
CONDITIONS: None
CURRENT OFFENSE: Statutory Rape 1st Degree (3 counts), Indecent Liberties (1 count)

Campbell has an extensive background in molesting pre-pubescent children, beginning when he was 8 years old. Campbell has admitted to molesting numerous children, ranging in ages as young as 1 year old to 11 years old, both male and female. These molestations have occurred at various locations. Campbell has gained sexual gratification from minor pre-pubescent children after first gaining their trust. Campbell is classified by this Department to be at a level which indicates a high probability of reoffending.

Does this guy really deserve to walk the streets again. I think what is most concerning is located in the conditions box. The fact that there are no conditions to his parole. Nothing that says, "stay away from children" or anything like that. My question is, are you even thinking logically when you say some outlandish things like that?

It should be a clinical syndrome that people are diagnosed with when they spout out cnnisms. Its like they hear it from a hippy or read it on a sign and suppose the idea to be true.

Let's think about this for a minute. What benefit would a wealthy, baseball owner, who happens to be the son of a former president have with conjuring a plan to invade Iraq? Why would he want to put the lives of young Americans at risk? Why would he want to simply make his old mans wrongs righted? Why would he need extra money that surely this war would bring in?

Some more questions.

Why would he risk his legacy for more money? Isn't he rich enough? Is the two time president of the United States hurting that badly for money?

I would say no. No, he doesn't the money. No, he wouldn't risk his legacy. No, he wouldn't put those young Americans at risks for his historical fame.

I would say he did it so that he could rid the world a tyrant. I would say he did it so that Americans would rest easier. I would say he did it because the American people elected him to a second term just for that purpose or rather the continuing of that purpose. I understand that in America we don't value freedom that much because it is a given. I understand that it is easy to look onto an Islamic people and say that they never asked to be free. It is easy for you and I because we don't sit in an office that can make a difference. Truth be told, most Americans don't really care if the rest of the world lives in poverty. Most Americans don't care about those people just like most Americans didn't care about Germany until Japan involved us in the war. Now we hold high the accomplishment of freeing Europe. Would it have taken a massive bombing from planes that read "IRAQ" to wake up this self centered nation?

Most people look down their noses at the President thinking that he does what he wills for the greater good of his back pocket. I think that the President just might have those small Iraqi children in mind. I think that he might have the little Afghan girl who gets to have school supplies for the first time in mind. I'd like to believe he had that soccer team who didn't have to fear being tortured if they didn't win in mind. I think that he might have had freedom, liberty, and a sense of Old American Glory on his mind.

Why do we as Americans assume the worst about our leaders? Why do we as Christians assume that no good could come from a country so Godless? Why do we assume that because sometimes the deepest desire of our hearts is money that it must be the same for all other beings? Why cant we assume that America might just be doing some good on the global front? Why cant we get behind the cause of the liberation of the Iraqi people even if or despite of the fact that the original intent was money? What is so bad with freedom that half of America is fighting against it?

Fish Trip

Yesterday we went to this aquarium place here in Okinawa. Apparently it is the 2nd largest fish tank in the world. It was pretty cool.

Kelsie had a pretty good time sleeping away her first big trip ever. It's amazing to me that this place is so beautiful and yet nearly everybody complains because we are so far away from anything that can be considered home. Most people in the States would jump on the chance to visit here. Maybe thats the problem. It would be a great place to visit but because of the launguage barrier, taxi cost, curfews, and overall (for lack of a better word) "Marineness" people get tired of Okinawa.

I think that it will be a great place to raise our daughter. The crime rate is low and there is plenty of wierd stuff to do. The beaches are really nice and the people are nicer.

Anyways. The Aquarium is valued at over 17 Billion dollars. Who in their right mind would authorize spending that much money on a freakin fish tank? Yeah its a cool place to visit but is not cool enough to merit that kinda dough. You could buy everyteam in major league baseball for that much. You could have 68 A-Rod contracts for that much. With that amount of money, A-Rod would be playing for the Yankees until 2684. Thats pretty cool.

Well I hope you are on my snap fish list so that you are getting pictures of what has been going on in our lifes. If you arent and would like to be, leave me a comment.

Those evolutionist can be very funny...

Isnt this just halarious? I was reading a website when i strolled onto this:

For years, Creation Scientists have disputed how Noah was able to quickly collect millions of indigenous animals from remote, inaccessible regions of the world for a 40-day ride in his ark. New evidence from an archeological find in China supports the long held Christian belief that Noah's sons rode giant flying dinosaurs to transport duck billed platypuses from Australia, and penguins and polar bears from the Antarctic, to name a few. "Those must have been some mighty big flying dinosaurs," says Pastor Deacon Fred. "Imagine the look on Noah's face when his sons flew in for a landing with a pair of Hippos strapped to the back of one of them things! Glory to God!" (Classic)
"The Lord is just amazing," says Creation Scientist, Dr. Jonathan Edwards. "Whenever Atheist scientists make a new find, they think it will hack away at our Christian beliefs. They must get pretty peeved at how sneaky our Lord is, because whenever they unearth something, it only provides more support for the historical accuracy of the Holy Bible And these flying dinosaurs they keep finding are no exception!"
Dr. Edwards explains that it would have been impossible for Noah's sons to travel to the four corners of the earth to areas that were previously inaccessible on foot. "Noah and his sons had to collect two of every single creature on the face of the planet," he says. "We're talking about a big haul here. At first we just attributed it to what Creation Scientists call, the Holy Finger Snapping Theory. That's where God snaps his fingers and just makes it so." Edwards points out that Creation Scientists are still unanimous in attributing the fact that Noah was able to load 100 million plus animals onto a 450 foot ark "in the selfsame day" (Genesis 7:13-14) to the Finger Snapping Theory. In the case of how the animals were collected from remote regions of the world in the first place however, recent archeological finds indicate that Noah's sons were able to tame giant flying dinosaurs and in turn, load them up with food supplies and hitch rides for long trips around the world to China, South America, Australia, Greenland, and the North Pole.
Creation Scientists estimate that since the Earth is only ten-thousand years old, human beings were living among dinosaurs and had plenty of time to tame them. "I would have loved to have been around to see Cain and Abel rolling around in the grass outside the Garden of Eden playing with the pet raptors their father, Adam, gave them for their birthdays," says Pastor Deacon Fred. "What a glorious time that must have been!"
Through tithing donations from Landover Baptist Church members, the Center for Creation Research was able to secure several fossilized remains of flying dinosaurs valued at over $14 million. The remains will be studied exhaustively for evidence of the leather harnessing used to secure Noah's sons for their long transcontinental journeys.

kelsie

 kelsie
Originally uploaded by matthewc5v6.
Isnt she just the best looking kid in the world?! She is awesome. She was born on the 21 June and weighed in at 8 lbs. 10 oz. fighting in the pink corner. She is so cute but I must be honest. Her farts smell like old boiled rectum sacks that were used to carry dead fish. That being said, her farts are even cute! She has slightly reddish hair. She had a full head at birth which was an amazing thing. I thought that I would be grossed out but I wasnt at all. Well I dont wanna be one of those dads that only talks about his kid so i am limited myself. I can only blog about kelsie 9 out of every 10 blogs. Deal? Well this is her and I am so proud. I love my wife even more now. How is he an all-star and why does he get so much attention? Who cares that he was a over all number one pick? So was Shawn Bradley? Yes he has won some championships but he has little to do with this last one. He shot 10 for 27. That sucks. If Detroit would have won the game, people would be talking about how Tim Duncan is an average basketball player. Robert Horry should have been the MVP of this series. Without his preformance in game 5 the Spurs would have never played in Game 7 and Rahseed Wallace would still be gripping his World Championship Belt. Tim Duncan should take a huge pay cut. He is a basketball player on the decline and isnt in the top 10 of the best players in the NBA. He can be gaurded by undersize players when he posts up and cant keep with other power forwards on the block. Big Shot Rob was the soul of this team and then manu. I hate Tim Duncan.

pretty soon

Its going to be a pretty big couple of weeks for me. The following is what I have on deck and in the hole.

First of all, My mother-in-law and Mom are coming thursday night. It should be a pretty fun visit. They have never met before and they are coming at a pretty stressful. Stacy is pretty excited. This is the longest she has been without seeing her mom (nine months). I am somewhat excited for my mom to come to Japan but i am used to not seeing her all the time. Stacy's mom is pretty fun and so is my mom.

Second, the baby should be on deck pretty soon. Her due date is tomorrow and it seems further away than it did a few weeks. We are both ready for her to be here. It doesnt seem possible.

Third, I have to prepare for a promotion board. Its not a big deal but i would like to win so things would be even easier at work. I am ready for the responsibility. I cant stay one of the low men of the todum pole for too much longer. I like my job more and more everyday. My boss is leaving the island pretty soon so that makes me all the happier. He is pretty much the worst Marine i have ever been around. I would enjoy kicking him in the face.

We've had a pretty big day getting the house ready for the baby to come. Its the first time our parents have been to our house so we want it to look nice. I hope they think it looks cool. I will post some pictures of the baby when she comes. I said this at work and it applies here as well. If you are not praying for the baby to come today, I will rape you.

no iraq for matt

There is still no new addition to the Cothron family but I have a feeling it is getting close.

I have been reading the Da Vinci Code which I find to be a great book thus far. I think it is far fetched but an overall enticing storyline. I hope that it gets better and better as it has thus far. It would be amazing to find yourself in some sort of a crazy story like this. I would love to be chased by the cops for a crime that I didn't do and find a way out of it.

I was like that the first time I watched 24 which is, for the record, the best show ever. Well the Family Guy is a close second, but still 24 is amazing. I would love to be like Jack Bauer. It would be awesome to fight off terrorist and save the day. I would feel much like Tom Green did nearing the end of Freddie Got Fingered. I would walk up to Stacy after getting off the chopper and tell her with a calm voice....I saved the day.

These things wont happen because I don't wanna go to war. I wanna save the day but not if there is a possibility I could be killed kinda way. I wanna save a choking kid or a granny that broke her hip. I dont wanna have to dawn Mopp gear because a chem attack is near. I dont wanna have to wear a flak jacket and helmet at all times because bombs are going off.

I enjoy the comfort of Okinawa mostly because I know that isnt Iraq. Marines are supposed to wanna kill and whatnot but I just mostly wanna be a good father now. I used to wanna go to war and be like Bruce Willis in Tears from the Sun, but now I pretty much would settle for being Steve Martin in Father of the bride.

the doctor is a lady of the night

We had a doctors appointment on friday at which Stacy's doctor said with all confidence, "I will be shocked if she doesnt have the baby by the end of the weekend!"

Well, according to my calender, Sunday is the last day of the weekend and still no Kelsie. She shouldnt get my hopes up like that to have them crashing down as I wake up for another 14 hour day at 4 in the morning on Monday.

On a bit of a brighter note, I bought a Ps2 last night. I bought splenter cell because I thought that i would do good in a tactics game. Not so much. I pretty much get killed within 5 minutes of the game starting. That being said I am pretty glad that I dont handle an explosive dog.

I hope the next time I post it is with pictures of our new born. But most likely I will just talk about how I still cant get past the first level of Tom Clancy's new thriller.

bascos head in cone

 bascos head in cone
Originally uploaded by matthewc5v6.
Well today pretty much one of the worst days ever. I had to sit in the freakin vets office all day waiting for this dog who isnt even mine. Because the Marine Corps is cheap we keep dogs forever. There is this dog Lex that couldnt out run Christopher Reeve in his current state. Well Lex has liver failure but the vets want him to continue to work. Its crazy. So i spent all day in the vet watching his I.V drip and drip and drip. It was horrid. I hate little dogs too. They whine so dang much. I wanted to punch them but i couldnt. So i just yelled at them alot. There was a pretty cool little mini pincher and he made me happy. The bright note of my work day was when i was on the way home and "Holla Back Girls" came on the radio. Needless to say, i shook what my momma gave me.

golfing

IMGA0128
Originally uploaded by matthewc5v6.
I love to golf. There has been plenty of tips on what to do and what not to do from many different types of people. The Feminist Groups tell me to encourage the intellectual side of my daughter but I don't want her to sport a high and tight hair cut as some ubber Dyke so I don't think I will take all of their advice. I want her to be smart but I don't want her to be protesting at the Master's tournament either. Most Christian sites tell me that I should encourage her female side from the beginning. Toys that she should have are ovens and tea cups. Well that is all fine and good but I don't want to see her end up in a jumper sharing a cell with Martha Stewart no matter how highly The Trump thinks of her.
I just want my little girl to be sweet and caring. I want her to love her mommy and daddy. I want her to love Jesus. I just want her to have everything her little heart desires. I think that if I just love Kelsie with a selfless Love she will turn out just fine. I would love it if she was a funny little bugger though.

who's cuter

 who's cuter
Originally uploaded by matthewc5v6.
Tonight was our last night of our baby classes. For a while we have wanted different names. She wanted Brianna. I wanted Madison. Both of these names are nice names but conjured different bad memories or illusions for both of us. Brianna reminds most young guys of a Porno Star, Brianna Banks, and Madison reminded Stacy of some girl she used to know and didnt care for. So we scrapped those names and picked a couple that we both liked.

She picked out two names and so did I. Then I picked the name out of her two names that I liked the best and she did the same for my choices. Then with those two names we played Paper, Rock, Scissors.

The name that fate decided was Kelsie Leanne. So Kelsie will be here in a little less than a month unless she decides to be late. But with two Marines as parents, she should be at least 15 minutes prior.

The Cothronian Bible

Sometimes being one of the only Reformed people in the entire Marine Corps can be quite funny. Its pretty safe to say that nearly 60 percent of the Marine Corps is Catholic. Its been that way for a while and it is safe to assume it will stay that way. Being that I am not catholic, some of the conversations that I have with the Catholics I work with are very funny.

Most Catholics in North America read the New American Bible. The only other Bible that most of them are aware of is the New international Version. We'll be having conversations about how justification takes place and I will quote a passage from Romans or where ever and they will ask me what version of the Bible is that? To which I usually reply the English Standard Version and they shoot right back, "Oh the Cothronian Bible."

Sometimes I feel like they are telling the truth. It feels like I am the only one in the Marine Corps who reads a decent translation of the Scripture. To them it really is the Cothronian Bible because LCpl Cothron is the only person they know who reads such a Bible. Are you to tell them that it is of no mistake that the Bible I read does not include the great work of Tobit or how to chant to Jesus' Mom.

Nearly every night they say they are going to pick up the Cothronian Bible off the internet because God forbid that the stores on base would carry a widely reformed protestant bible. Some of their accusations about what happened during the reformation are downright hilarious. I am sure that I will be writing about those at some point. But the Cothronian Bible is too great a topic to pass up. But honestly, is it a bad thing that they associate me with a decent copy of the Scripture? I don't think so.

Time went by part 2

Well since I last wrote, I have been reading much and conversing much as well. I have missed some things about discussing theology and have learned more perhaps by not discussing it. I have learned where theology is valuable and have found where it makes no sense. Well I am in the process of learning that rather.

In one of Scott Schultz's posts he said:

I wish I could just sit in Church and not have to mentally pick out each and every flaw. I wish I didn't constantly find myself arguing in my head with the pastor's exegesis each week. I wish I didn't constantly think that I have some special knowledge that I must impart to humanity. I wish I was stupid. Really stupid. Happily stupid.

I think that Scott is right on. For a while at school I didn't agree with nearly anything, anyone said. I would go to Chapel and be like, "dang this guy is horrid." Then I started sitting under the teaching of Dr. Chase at First Pres. Dothan and I fell in love with the way he spoke the scripture. I fell in love with the way that he expounded the scripture. I fell in love with the way that he prayed the Scripture.

After a few months there, I got accustomed to his pastoral ministries and forgot the blessedness of his ministry. I forgot what a treasure he was in God's kingdom. Then I shifted from that church to the emptiness that is the Chaplain Corps of the United States Military. I hated going to chapel. I often times would opt for hazing by Drill Instructors (see Full Metal Jacket) then go to this "church."

It stayed that way and is that way over here. Though tragically wrong perhaps, most of the time I just sit and watch sermons on the computer. I will download them and listen and love it. I will read the greats of the past online and twiddle my thumbs with glee. Perhaps another the day the Lord will lead me to a pastor that will lead me again. Until then I will be satisfied with my computer shepherds.

Who knows, maybe one day I will be a Chap. Oh how ironic that would be. Shoot, it would be a huge pay raise from my current pay. Complain about taxes again and I will fight you. That is no lie.

I know some of you will rebuke so bring it.

some great calvin statements

"I consider looseness with words no less of a defect than looseness of the bowels."

"The sum is, that the worship of God must be spiritual, in order that it may correspond with His nature. To be honest, I didn't really even think about it until he asked me.

For the most part infant baptism sits quite well with me. The is a deep Baptist burning within me that there is something wrong with it but I have never been able to put my finger on it. The argument can and has been made several times about infant baptism and its relationship to Old Testament circumcision. I was reading a little article by a professor at Westminster Seminary in California this is what he says:

"Did the babies circumcised under Abraham and Moses understand what was happening to them? Of course not. How were Abraham, Isaac and Jacob saved? By grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone.76 The fact God require children of the believers to understand the sign of admission to the visible covenant community before it was given, doesn't mean that they did not need to understand it as they grew up. They certainly did. The same responsibility rests with every Christian today. Every time Christians come to the Lord's table, they renew the covenant, receive the promise of the Gospel again, take up their oath of obedience to God and renew their baptism. In fact, every complaint raised against Covenant baptism can be raised against covenant circumcision. If those complaints were invalid for circumcision, they are invalid for baptism."

R. Scott Clark seems to be pretty descent. Although his arguments have been stated in various other places, he is clear and to the point. Scott Schultz also made some descent points on his site www.tellmethestory.net. The amount of bull crap that i have to deal with is far less on nights but i am somewhat concerned about being away from stacy as she nears the end of her pregnancy.

3. Speaking of pregnancy, the baby will be here in next to no time. its becoming a reality that in a couple of weeks our lives will no longer be the same. Everything will be different. I do not think a big change is a bad thing. It just hard knowing that there will be a huge wrench thrown into our beautifully running car. I am looking forward to molding things again though.

4. Both of our moms will be here at the same time. On the babies due date our moms fly in on the same flight. Stacy has never met my mom so it should be interesting. My mom is very easy going so i am not even slightly concerned. I cant wait to have a little piece of home here in Japan. Being so far away is odd because it doesn't feel that far away unless i am trying to talk to someone over there. I cant remember how many times i have gotten off work and thought about calling a friend and thinking, "Man, its only 3 in the morning there." Then i miss people. Other than those times, my main thought is screw yall.

Time went by part 1.

the first thing that I would like to talk about is: my realization about how impractical the study of theology is for most people or, rather, their lack of desire to know about it.

Why do people who have a strong love for God want to study theology? Did that strong love for God come before their love of theology or is the root of their love for God from that theology. For me I would say that the latter is true. I only began loving Christ truly when he illuminated himself to me through the Bible and then through theology. Why though? Why did the two go hand in hand? Is theology as important as I once thought it to be?

Well I was in school for about 3 years. I went to two different school and had many different teachers. They nearly all said that this would apply to my life more so when I began my "full-time" ministry. Well in Feb. 04 I joined the United States Marine Corps. Surely if I needed to stand on biblical teachings it would be now.

I started off doing just fine. I was the lay leader in my platoon and enjoyed that a lot. I got the chance to pray with all kinds of guys and they seemed to enjoy it to. But then questions came up about all sorts of things. I tried to explain my arguments or convictions, if you want to use that term, in the same manner that I had become accustomed. To my surprise no one out of the 54 guys had a clue what total depravity was or how it effected their lives. No one had a clue what I was talking about. At that point I felt as if I could argue with anyone about theology and I would come away the victor, maybe not in their eyes but I would not be shaken.

Time went by.

I found myself a week ago hating to go to church. I found myself like that, I think, because I let my love for theology be confused with my love for the church. I would rip apart what nearly any Pastor would say. I would say in my heart, "this guy is a frappin idiot." but in actuality I was the one who was wrong. I didn't see the point in going to church. I left all the time mad and confused about why I was so mad. But then I just started to not care at all.

Time went by.

I met this guy who is a catholic. Some of you reading might be like eww but trust me, this was a blessing. I noticed one day he was reading the "Left Behind" series. I asked him why he was reading that rubbish and he said why do you say it is rubbish. I said because I don't think that it represents what the bible says about the "rapture". Then I laughed. He asked why I laughed and I told him because the rapture isn't a biblical word. Anyways. We talked about escatology for a good while. It took me about 30 minutes that day to just remember the escatology. If that shows how much I have forgotten.

We started patrolling together. When we would work we would often talk about the differences between Catholicism and Presbyterianism. We would talk about Mary and the Eucharist. We would talk about biblical infallibility and sola scriptura.

Time went by.

Its been a while

Its been a while since I have decided to write something to share with the readers of the world wide web. I don't really know what I am going to write about on this blog. For all those that used to like to read what I wrote for theological purposes, or lack thereof, you will be mostly disappointed. The mind that once graced the area between my ears is far smaller and not nearly as argumentative. My desire to be one who can speak well about theology is not really a passion that burns within me like it used to. In all actuality, I have forgotten most of what I knew. That isn't saying much but it is rather concerning to me that I could spend nearly three years studying the same topic and forget most of what I studied.

I was talking to a friend who encouraged me to start writing again. What will this glean? Well I am not exactly sure. I just hope that my speaking ability or lack thereof will return to where it was rather than stay where it is. Most people begin writing with a well spoken desire to speak with some authority on this or on that. I just want to let those who are or who were close to me get a glimpse of what my life and thought process are like now.

Going from a studying theolog to a united states marine is mind blowing. Being a Marine isn't as monumental as I once thought it would be. I thought it would influence nearly every aspect of my life. It hasn't. I thought it would change the way that I viewed theology. It hasn't. I thought it would differ my relationships with those that I called dear. It has. My relationships have suffered much in the past year. Don't get me wrong I value those relationships that I have gained. I shall touch on that later.

I feel like I am doing little or nothing for the church. I feel this way because I am not. When I speak of my relationships getting worse I am primarily talking about those who would involve the church or the saints as some would call it. Why though? Is there something inherently wrong with being in the military? Surely not. But it seems as though people conspire that my relationship with Christ has somewhat weakened due to the fact that I wear a camouflage uniform. I think that this is a rightful assumption. I mean after all, can a man endure the hardships of a militaristic life and still keep his eyes forever focused on the prize. If he can, I haven't met that man. Just as in school I stumble. It seems as though my stumbles have grown more severe.

it seems as though I could rant about this topic or lack of a topic forever. So in lieu of boring you forever, I will organize and post in a logical manner. Hopefully.
